Texas Water Safari Fund Raiser for HAAM

Last night, we went to a reunion for one of the teams that participated in the Texas Water Safari. Texas Water Safari is a ridiculously tough 260 mile canoe race on the Guadalupe River starting in San Marcos and ending in the Gulf of Mexico. Johannes, one of our family friends, was on a team for the second year.

Hearing their stories of teamwork, strength, highs and lows, and hallucinations inspired me to say that I would absolutely never do this race. It is nice to know that human beings of this strength or delirium exist on the planet. They will surely be the ones to survive the coming zombie apocalypse.

The team also uses the event as a fund raiser. This year they chose the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) which provides access to affordable health care for Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so at the team’s fund raising page.
